I've mentioned before how much of a fan of Usagi Yojimbo I am, so I'm not going to go through all of what makes the series, characters, and stories so good. This is the 32nd collection of stories featuring the character, and that longevity alone should tell you how good they are. In fact, I've found myself recommending this series to people who are looking for comic recommendations, regardless of what their main interest is. You want something with good art? Usagi Yojimbo. You want something wit [...]

Two Hundred Jizo is volume 29 of Stan Sakai's samurai epic, Usagi Yojimbo. I recommend beginning with Vol. 1 of course, but the tales here don't really depend on long running story lines. There are some returning characters it would help to be familiar with, but the gist of any characters we've seen before is well conveyed, so this isn't a bad place to start overall. For those who are new to Usagi, a comment from my review of Vol. 1 on Sakai's choice of medium: "The use of amorphous animals as th [...]

Public library copy. Unlike other editions this book collects shorter stories or vignettes. An unusual bonus were the instances when the creator wrote himself into noncanon tales.

Como siempre, Sakai consigue emocionar. Para mi recuerdo en particular, la historia de los porteadores de hielo. Refleja como nadie muchas circunstancias que se dan en la vida laboral ^.^

via NYPL - Still and always excellent. I particularly enjoyed the Inspector Ishida mystery and learning about the making of soy sauce.

Once again, Sakai's art and storytelling are wonderful. Inspector Ishida is back solving new mysteries and I am now in the know on how Soy Sauce is traditionally made. Good times.

I’m a ride or die Usagi Yojimbo fan – a Stan Sakai stan, if you will – so it truly pains me to give this volume anything but a perfect score. I’m incredibly grateful for every new edition released over the years. Its longevity and consistency are remarkable, and not qualities I’d ever take for granted. Two Hundred Jizo was solid overall. I enjoyed the Inspector Ishida mystery, and the morsels of Japanese culture embedded in the adventures related to ice running, shoyu production, and t [...]

Celebrating the 200th issue of Usagi Yojimbo, the main story in this collection features an artist who carves Jizo instead of creating comics. It's a sweet story and although the stories are simple one offs I appreciate that Stan Sakai was able to make comics at all while going through multiple personal tragedies. I've been a fan for 30 yearsy new Usagi is good to me. Stan Sakai is a master!!

You know what you're getting with Usagi Yojimbo. And that's great comics. Among other treats, this time we get an issue 100 tribute story with a Saki stand in, and a good old fashioned murder mystery. Honestly I think I could read these sort of stories forever.

Another wonderful collection of exciting, fun, and poignant Usagi stories. The three-part story "Shoyu" includes a lesson on how soy sauce was made. Very cool!Sakai uses the amusing bonus story "Sukanku" to show how he creates an Usagi story from initial idea to finished comic.

I had no idea the art of making Soy Sauce could be so deadly!
